Does anyone have inexpensive rolls and/or mint-bags of pre-1982 BU Cents for sale?

I am a coin smasher / roller / elongator, and I almost always elongate pre-1982 Copper Cents.

I just finished an order for 15,000 elongated Cents, which ate up 3 of my mint-sewn bags of 5,000 Cents each.

I am seeking to buy some rolls and/or bags to replenish my stocks.

I am, of course, seeking the least expensive ones out there, like the 1974-D, 1981-D and others that are less than $1 in the grey sheet.

I am willing to pay cash (via PayPal or check - your choice) or... I can make you a custom elongated coin design and roll some coins for you!!!

Can anyone PLEASE help me out here?

    Thanks so much!

I will email my LCS and see if they have any rolls that suit your need. All I have is one of those old timey glass milk jugs about halfway full...and some rolls of coins taken from proof/mint sets.

Thank you so much for your swift reply!

If the Cents are pre-1982 and are in BU condition, I would gladly buy them. The more, the better, since I would need to be wary of the shipping cost... :)

Oded, this is a bit off-topic, but what do you do with the empty Mint bags? Just curious!

I have a whole pile of empty Mint Bags. Are they worth anything to anyone?

I've seen some people sell them on eBay, but I have an assortment of my own.

    Thanks,

Mine are in a small pile, in my workshop.

Some have writing on them, some do not.

Is anyone here interested in them enough to buy them?

Or trade me - full ones for empty bags... LOL!

Too lazy to google...Is it legal to elongate (destroy) cents? If so, why can't I melt them?!? Are elongated cents still legal tender?

You're not destroying them, just altering 'em a bit. More of a conversation piece than a median of trade........

    Why? What do you mean...?

Yes - it IS Legal! – U.S. Code Title 18, Chapter 17, Section 331: Prohibits,, among other things, fraudulent alteration and mutilation of coins. This statue does not, however, prohibit the mutilation and defacing of coins if done without fraudulent intent (such as Jewelry) or if the mutilated/defaced coins are not used fraudulently.

So... Elongated coins, Hobo Nickels, Love Tokens and anything that is done with a coin as a form of art or any sort of mutilation, that is not done purposely to defraud anyone, is totally 100% legal!!!

My name, as given to me by my parents on June 7, 1963, is Oded Paz.

I don't use a "handle" since I am very proud of my name, have nothing to hide, and always stand behind what I write...!!!

Why don't you try listing the printed ones in the "For Sale" forum and see what happens.

I'll be selling mine in due time.

But you did not answer the part I was curious about. "Are elongated cents still legal tender?"

Maybe... if I find the time to dick around with these...

How can they be "legal tender"? Do they look like a coin? Will anyone accept them as a coin? I don't think so!

When they are elongated, the Cent actually becomes more valuable than the 1 Cent it was worth before elongating, so there would be no sense in trying to pay with an elongated coins for the value of 1 Cent.

On the other hand, the U.S. Mint in Philly will accept any mutilated coin, for its face value, and send you a check for them. I believe they will pay according to the weight, but I'm not sure. BUT, it is your responsibility to get them to the Mint, which could become costly.

The better question would be - we know it is illegal to melt Cents. Would it be legal to melt elongated Cents?
