Is my coin a 1854 G$1 Type 2 DDO FS-101 (Regular Strike)

    PCGS CoinFacts and TrueView images are notoriously red-shifted. I have never seen one that isn't. So, your images look much more faithful to the color of gold in hand (at least on my monitor).

    You have me thinking, so I looked at mine. Mine is 1855 and is AU50. image.jpg Is there doubling on the MER in America?

    Hard to tell from the pics. But if I look on CoinFacts, there is no listing for any "Related Coins and Varieties", which normally major and minor varieties like DDO would be listed there for 1855 G$1 (Regular Strike). If I look on NGC, it says "There are no varieties for this coin."

    Still a nice coin! And it is worthwhile to look through all your coins for any varieties. NGC and PCGS and/or the RedBook would be very helpful in this regard.

    That's why I like taking pictures even at the coin shop before I buy a coin. I find it much easier to see stuff when I'm not looking thru my loupe with crappy lighting.
