It seems like we are influencing each other into buying certain coins on here. First it was Nabataean coins, then it was Elymais coins and now I have bought a Gordian III coin. I don't know if its a bad influence or a good one to be hanging out in this forum. Oh yeah, and I influenced myself into buying another Mount Argaeus coin, if that made any sense. Gordian III, Cappadocia Drachm of Caesarea, Year 4 AR 18.8 , 2.8 g O: AY K M ANT GORDIANOC, laureate, draped and cuirassed bust right R: MHTROP KAICAPIAC, B-NE, Mount Argaeus, star above, below ETOYC delta Sydenham 602var
Wow icerain ... man, that is a gorgeous example (yummy-yummy) Huh, strange ... I seem to remember having a Gordian III from Cappadocia around here somewhere ... hmmm, but where did I put it? ... oh yes, here it is!! => yeeehaaaa!!! ... well, like a new Daddy => I am thrilled that Gordie will have a lil' playmate to grow-up with (that's awesome, my friend) Cheers
I considered that one because of the B NE and this is the second time recently that this list has let the NE go without comment. No one cares?
I looked for a bit to see what the B NE stands for, but I didn't find anything. I suppose it has to do with the region of issue or something but I still don't know if thats what it stands for? B for Barcelona and NE for Nicomedia?
I almost bought this too but got a Tetradrachm instead which I will post in time. It is very nice, price wasn't bad either.
B NE = 2nd Neocorate (a city with two Imperial temples) We today would have trouble understanding just how much an honor this was to a city. The closest we have are towns with two NFL franchises. http://www.forumancientcoins.com/dougsmith/neok.html http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Neocorate I mentioned Icerain's coin with Neo: https://www.cointalk.com/threads/my-new-favorite-coin.258373/
It's simply not fair that you have two Mt. Argaeus coins and I have none. In the spirit of socialism, I demand that you redistribute your wealth. I will PM you my address.
