I have never collected error note currency. The other day I got this as change and thought it was interesting. Nothing major but seems like only the Obverse of this bill has a faulty alignment. Any comments welcome!

You are correct, it is a faulty alignment note, minor though. I'm not sure if it has much premium but I found someone on Ebay asking $40 for one. The reason that only the obverse has that error is because the reverse press was probably OK, but the obverse press was aligned wrong.

Here is a sold listing a little more like your note: sold for $61.

To get that in change is amazing in itself. It is a silver certificate, plus with the error on the back, it should have caught someone's attention. If anything else, a bank should have pulled it from circulation due to wear.

That is not my note,It is just a photo off of Ebay that I found to show a serious example of that error, but I agree it is amazing that it is so worn to the point of falling apart and no one ever pulled it out of circulation due to that huge error. But back then a dollar was worth more an people probably did not know that a problem like was worth anything. I know people would not pay over $1 for a silver dollar because they think it is a dollar because "that is what it says on the coin" I remember someone asked me what would be my dream coin to find metal detecting, I said a $20 gold piece, the person then said "So your dream find is $20???". I then explained what that coin is.

Usually a faulty alignment note will command a premium. The premium depends on the condition of the note, denomination , and severity of the alignment. The price will generally go up when some of another note can be seen in the margin. It also doesn't hurt if it's a Star note.

Hello I am a US banknote error collector . I have over 100 error note & I will tell you this in less it is what they call A MAJOR ERROR it's not going to be worth much !

You can buy UNITED STATES PAPER MONEY ERRORS this book for will show you pictures & prices & they are right about most !

Check out my user picture it is a 1969 mismatched serial # ( graded 66 out of 70 ) This note is worth around $550 .

The $10 note you have has a value around $11 in that condition. Hope that helps you & keep your eye out for those error notes !
