Here is a nice 1996 P mint Struck-Through quarter on the Obverse side. Looks like it took a blow to the head. Whatever foreign object that caused it fell off. I want to send it to NGC to get it certified. Like it? StrukThru25C.jpg

True. But my reason for sending my error coins to NGC are for 2 reasons. Personal, I love my error coins. And educational, to show others especially young collectors the different types of errors out there. I have a ton (about 170+ error and varieties) of certified error coins that I show to new numisists. :cyclops:

It's my guess that grease and debris built up in the shallow recess of Georgie's face/neck and fell off only to land on the planchet before striking.

If you send it to NGC, be sure to request the error attribution, note "Obverse Strikethrough" in the description line and pay the extra fee. If NGC decides not to attribute this error, they will refund the extra money.

Thanks Chris. If they attributed the following coin in my collection with the same error on the Reverse near the bottom of the coin. I think I should have no problem with this quarter.

You can't show young collectors what an error looks like unless it is slabbed?

I get memory lapses so the slab helps me to remember the name of the error! :jawdrop:

Nice Quarter 91stang2! Looks like a Struck Through grease on the date. Rare error on the Bicentennial Quarter. This is my Struck Through Cent.
