The shipping container for three units of the 50th Anniversary Kennedy 2014 Half-Dollar Gold Proof Coins: The coin selected for the collection out of the three received:
Cool find at the local coin shop last week..."Blue Pack" 40% Silver 1971-S Eisenhower Dollar that turned champagne gold in the plastic...nobody in the Ikegroup.info forum has seen one before..in hand, it's out of this world. Either the plastic was contaminated, or, the planchet was, or, both...the collar is white, leading me to surmise planchet impurities that lead to the golden toning.
This one has the free US Mint bag in it, never opened. I must have gotten 3 or 4 of these and this one fell behind a cabinet
What's in that 1971 pkg? Are those Mint Sets, Proof Sets or 40% Ikes? I'm sure there's some small detail on the pkg that would tip off a more experienced collector. It's just so cool to see these in original mailers and what could be within (if truly unopened, in general, not to impugn yours).
What the devil do they use to seal the flaps on the current shipping (mint) containers? I have one devil of a time getting them open without destroying the box.
Nah, not really. I like the one I got (OGP) and had hoped to buy one slabbed (I didnt'). I did buy one extra copy of the book on eBay. I only ever wanted two of the coins for my own collection. Who I'd bet you wished they ordered more (any) of them are all the haters who refused to believe these would be worth anything more than bullion... and they are probably kicking themselves knowing the Mint melted down tens of thousands of the coins that didn't sell to make other coins. Coulda, woulda, shoulda...
