What would you include in a Top 10/25 list of US coins under $250?

BU Type 1 Buffalo nickel, Oregon Trail half, WL half dollar, and SL quarter. I do not collect US anymore so fill in the grades that can be had under $250, but those are four of the best coins ever struck. The Buffalo nickel and Oregon Trail especially. Nothing scream "American" more than those two coins to me.

I’d give you a list, but in the $250 range, they’re all “moderns”. Granted, some classic uber rarities may continue to set record moon prices, but the classics that us old timers grew up with will mostly be relegated to type collectors who don’t care so much about key dates, so maybe high quality common classics will see gains. On the other hand there are some truly beautiful low mintage moderns produced these days in gold, silver and base metal, and these series will be the ones the new generation of collectors will try to complete. Since most of these moderns aren’t all that popular at the moment, they can be had for very little compared to their potential value if/when they catch on.

Good responses guys, I will try and get this data into some sort of list over the weekend if I get a little downtime.

As for which way to go with how to evaluate what I mean by a good coin for $250, how about it can either be something that will have a nice price increase in the future, or one that is just a good bang for the buck, include both major ways to interpret "good coin".

If you want bang for the buck I suggest a 82,83, or 84 CC GSA Morgan. I've always felt these never really received the premium they were due.

A trade dollar in problem free XF can be had for said price (good luck finding it) talk about bang for buck and way better potential than '82 '83 '84 gsa those are just meh and way too many of em out there

1927 p and 1934p choice unc Peace dollars are worth a mention at some point these HAVE to go up in value due to rarity/beauty/popularity

Whatever list you come up with, the quality of the individual coins is just as important. They should be coins that have a nice original tone, good strike and a minimum of contact marks. Coins that any discriminating collector would appreciate and want.

Even though this was a given in my mind, this is excellent advice to follow all throughout coin collecting. Avoid the ugly coins

People are really missing a bet. Many highly desirable moderns can be picked up for a song because nobody cares. It won't always be this way and the scarce coins will be the first to go into collections where they'll disappear for decades. Forget $250, some of these can be had for less than $2.50

Find a nice '82 and '83 mint set and stash them. If you can't find nice ones just spring for souvenir sets. You can get all four for less than $250.

I'd say vg-f draped bust large cent
A nice xf capped bust half
A nice vf-xf no stars dime or half dime
    A 20 cent likely 75-s
A type 1 slq in au
An au classic head half cent
A late date large cent in high au or even possibly low ms brown
And last but not least my favorite a common 76-78-s or 77 trade dollar in problem free vf-30-xf 45

I would also add early proof Lincoln's to this list as well. Popular series and again low mintages.

What's a good value walker to obtain around that price range that is a good bang for the buck? I don't know much about the series.

a VG 1921 or AG 1921D, a VG+ 1916S with obverse mintmark, not much in collectible grades, but maybe some of the less common dates from the '30s in XF or AU would be under $250
