Hello again.... has anyone here seen such a strange and well placed error such as this?? It looks like my eagle has a belt on.. im thinking strike thru or planchet issue.. And for the record said scratches are NOT on the holder and doesnt appear to be pmd as they are not shiny and have mint luster... thoughts? CAM00589.jpg CAM00569.jpg

Oh and btw there are a couple 5 more of these notched lines on reverse, just not as prominent... its in a problem free ms63 anacs holder.., very weak strike...... and lemme know if more photos are needed.

It looks to me like they are slightly recessed. Is there any indication of metal displacement alongside the marks?

No not at all ... they are definitely recessed and definitely NOT pmd... unless the anacs grader was about to go to lunch that day lol
..but no i wouldnt call these scratches OR a hobo carving

Yeah - look just like scratches as they are across the eagle and nothing in the fields.

Since you say they are recessed, the only other possibility that comes to mind is that they are the result of a strikethrough, but I don't have any idea what caused it.

They all run the same direction except for 1 or 2... and the one starts to the left of the arrow featjers and appears to run all the waydown to the rim under the A in dollar albeit curves past the.ribnon

Are they recessed in the fields also? If so, scratch. If they are raised on the fields, then strikethrough possible. Is my thinking right on this?

Not raised in the fields per se: but they arent really recessed either.. when these lines approach the fields i would call them a discoloration more so than incuse or recessed...sorta like striations or roller marks do... weird huh

Another possibility is that they are marks that were in the planchet before striking, that were made when the stock was rolled out.

Wow it took 2 different websites and probably 500 readers b4 THAT got thrown out tjere.... sorry if i seem excited but its actually what i was thinking too... i think the weak strike might be a clue... just shows how much more educated the folks are here... i actually got banned for arguing this coin over there... one.person suggested holder scratches and the.whole community.seemimgly followed suit like.sheep

Both, a strikethrough and a scratch are recessed. The primary difference between the two is that a scratch should show the "crater effect" and the strikethrough would not.

No! Don't start another thread. You'll just confuse things.

Y;)U are correct and this particular coin does NOT show crater effect.,
