I may have asked before, but I'm curious if anyone else collects OBW rolls beside me? I know they are common but I think it will be fun to one day open and search them with the grand kids. Besides they cost face value for the new ones. I have bought some older ones for a little over face. eBay has them often but most of the sellers offering them also have the dreaded CWT on the end or the uncirculated wheat, the possible vdbs or other obviously seeded rolls. I would like to find a source for rolls that you can trust so I was wondering if any of y'all collected them or new how to judge from pictures on eBay original rolls compared to those new rolls being passed off as older ones?
Once upon a time I had 2 rolls of wheaties which contained 100 different coins. Thought about selling on eBay. One could have just about completed the 1909-1940 collection minus the key dates. Wonder how much I could have auctioned those off for? I'll never know. I gave them away as a x-mas gift to a total stranger. Some day I'll get a reward for that. I got a bunch sorted by decades. Easy to make up some good rolls.
I purchase OBW rolls, but as a variety collector I open them. Ray Parkhurst is the most knowledgeable collector of OBW rolls that I know. He has a very informative thread about them here- http://www.lincolncentforum.com/for...al-Bank-Rolls-quot-OBW-quot-Buying-Guide-rev1
