I’m now planning to visit New York City at the end of January with friends. We’re attending an antique auction that includes this crazy table for photographing coins. My NY friends don’t have the coin collector gene so I won’t be dragging them to the American Numismatic Society. I was thinking that I might offer to drag some of the folks to the Metropolitan Museum. I think these friends would like the Met & there may be a few coins for me to view there. Does anyone know of other good places to visit in NY (that might include a few ancient coins & artifacts to keep my interest)? We’ll be in Manhattan but don’t limit your numismatic suggestions to Manhattan.
I haven't been to the Museum of Natural History in years, but I think they have some ancient coins on display too. Also, if you are into art definitely go to the Museum of Modern Art. As far as ancient coins go, there is only one store I go to, Paul Bosco Coins at 149 Madison Ave. 32nd st. Call before you go as a lot of times he shows up whenever he wants to. 212-758-2646 and be prepared to dig, the only bad thing I can say is that nothing is priced, but I have gotten some pretty good coins from him.
Good to know. Thanks for the input ancientnut & icerain. I will recommend to my friends that we all go to the Metropolitan & when I have time to myself I will call Paul Bosco Coins.
