It's a variety, Type 1 vs Type 2. Follow this link to the Ike Group to read about it. The site is free to use, just need to check the agree button at the bottom of the first page, and it should take you to the variety page for your coins date. Does the "R" in "DOLLAR" look like that too?? The tail of the R is straight on Type I coins and curved on Type II coins.

Because you are looking to hard. Both R's look the same to me. And for the record, the Type 1 Reverse for the BiCentennial coins is SANS SERIF while the Type 2 Coins have Serifs.
