... and its a Roman, plus its got no animals on it.

Well awhile back I have been eyeing a Julia Domna Denarius with a rarer reverse variation. Taking a look around online sites only showed a few that was either too much for me or the condition wasn't up to my taste. Hoping to snag the coin at the NYINC I looked through almost all the tables hoping to find one in my range and condition. Well I didn't find one. :(

But I did find a Julia Domna coin that caught my eye. One that almost called out to me, it was one I had not seen before but it was one I knew I was going to buy when I flipped it over.

Enough with the blabbering you say? Ok here it is :D

Nice, ive wanted this type for awhile but some I find are pricey and not worth it in the condition they are in.

Hope this is not stupid, but I dont follow the OPs obverse inscription, what is the second symbol?

It's O - he just left it out of the attribution. In the Provincial Greek/Roman mishmash, IVLIA gets spelled IOVΛIA. And the second word is ΔO-MNA, not AVΓVSTA.

Thanks for the correction. Was copying and pasting stuff, btw. how do you type in Roman or Greek? I can never figure out how to do it on the computer?

I type the Greek into a Word document using the insert symbol function, then copy it and paste into the forum post. There's got to be a better way, but I don't know it.

Excellent coin, Ice! Mine is a year older, not as nice and shows Septimius. Note on both our coins the reverse legend ends with an omega you omitted from your description. gi0940bb1181.jpg
