Can you buy just the cover and loose pages? Thanks, Douglas

You could easily remove all the presidential bio pages from the binders if you wanted to. Those are printed on thinner paper than the thick coin insert pages. Frankly, I'm going to leave the bios in because they each have a nice color portrait of the presidents facing their coin page and it looks pretty sharp visually.

(Though I noticed that for the more modern presidents, they substitute lame photos for the paintings...Clinton's and W's look pretty cheesy. In future editions they should use a painted portrait for everyone for a more consistent appearance)

Friend Eddie, thanks, that makes the album sound better. If you can take all the extra bio pages out, I don't see what's all the fuss. How many pages in the album and coins per page? And is it just P&D, or does it include the proof? Thanks, Douglas

Can field that one. The standard album (7186) is basically a presidential dollar type set (one hole for each president). It comes with 5 pages that hold 9 coins each, enough for every president up to and including George W. Bush with two extra unlabeled slots for future presidents. Again as of now, it is known the series will go to at least Ford (2016); it may go further depending on the life spans of current and future former presidents (see my earlier post for more details). In the unlikely event the series goes past 45 presidents you could always add pages to it later... I'm sure they'll print supplements to the album if it goes that far.

They may do a PDS set too, haven't seen one yet though. Of course you could also just get a blank album and use unlabeled pages with holes that work for SBA/Sacagawea/President dollars if you like. However there will be at least 114 coins in that set, so keep that in mind!

Inoticed the political bias almost immediately upon reading the pages from the Dansco album. For better or worse, this is but one more indication of where the hobby is headed. No longer is there just sheer fun from collecting. Everything in the hobby has layers. From politically biased Dansco albums to $40,000 PCGS MS70 graded 1993 Lincoln cents, the hobby is going in directions we could have only guessed about years ago. This is all why I sold every slabbed coin I own and am now teaching my niece and nephew the joys of trying to fill albums with circulated coins. I'll be danged if I'm not going to find that joy I had of collecting when I was 10 one more time. (PS...this is not a jab at those who love their slabbed coins...this is a hobby and wherever anyone finds joy in collecting is OK by me).

Hmmm, just so I have clear direction, if a person wanted to have albums with both P and D coins (which is my intent), he would have to get two #7186 albums. Is that correct? As I may have stated eariler or on a different thread, I always get an extra Mint Set to break up for albums, no sense not it it for the Prez dollars too. Thanks, Douglas

There are albums that have Holes for P and D... No reason to buy two unless you want too... :)

    Doug,

The album I have is Dansco 7184. It has holes for P & D. It consists of six "thick" pages for the coins, interspersed with six "thin" pages with the pres portraits and mini-bio. The arrangement is four rows of four slots per page, for a total of eight presidents per page. I can't wait for John Adams to arrive...I think this album will look really sharp once it starts filling up!

I got mine on ebay for around $21 I think...you may be able to find a similar deal. It looked like the "best" pres album out there at the time..
