Some days it just pays to come to work

I found these in a leather bag on my desk this morning when I showed up for work. Most of them probably have little monetary value but some of these go back to the 1800's very early 1900's so I don't really care about the condition. Some of them I have no idea what they are - mainly group to top left. The four coins just below the 100 Lira are a mystery until I get home to look them up. A couple tokens. A cent from Canada that seems to be made out of nickle or silver - the hole just made me so sad? You just have to love those old coins from the UK, Espana, US and Canada...

The guy that left them had them sitting in a drawer at home and said they probably would have ended up in the trash - so he said I could HAVE them. All except for the three pence because he really likes the shape. He asked that I clean it up for him and put it in a 2x2. I told him he will at least have to take a bottle of Jameson Whiskey for them - which I know he really likes.

I feel like I captured the leprechaun a day early and he gave me all his loot :D

    Enjoy - Darryl

The coin one down from the very top left (with the jug) is a dirham from the UAE, dated 1984.

The one down from it is a 10 yen from Japan.

Thank you for the help!!! Any idea on the date for the one from Japan?

The reeded edge on the ¥10 dates it to 1959 or later, but the date is on the other side, under the "10".

The design adopted in 1951 is still in use.

I checked the one out that is down and across from the dirham, it is a 1 dinar from Yugoslavia. 'Dinar' is written in cyrillic.

The one from Japan is Showa 28, which translates to 1953. Nice batch of coins really.

Thanks Guys, I did not realize that one was french as I have not had a chance to look at my books yet. For a coin from 1925 it's in nice shape. :smile

I still cannot believe these showed up and it will be nice to take some time to study them. These are older than most of the world coins that I have so looking at the details will be interesting. Love those six pence coins (1944 and 2 - 1951) Also love the Large Penny's. As I mentioned to you before De Ork - something about the detail in the older modern UK/British coins that I just really like.

There's nothing better than an unexpected gift of world coins to expand your interest in the hobby. Nice haul.

BTW, if you get a photo of the other side of the coin to the right of the 10 yen I'm sure someone will be able to ID it quick enough.

I could have sworn I saw evidence of a reeded edge in the original photo, but obviously I didn't. [IMG]

It is reeded Roy... Gxseries's date made me wonder after your comment.

Here is the Obverse of the last unknown coin. It is approximately 17mm.

As far as my expanded interest goes - it's more like expanded fields of study as my interest could not become any greater than it already is :) . I love coins from anywhere during any period. This was a very gracious gift that will bring me hours of study and enjoyment...

First I have seen or heard of it. Love the Symbol on the Obverse! Trying to figure out what it has in its left (our right) talon. Now that I know what it is it will be easy to figure out.

    Thanks again...
