I love that color purple. I once saw a both sides shiny dark purple proof nickel go for $700 at a Vegas coin show about 10 years ago. great color but I will not shell out that kind of money for it.
I ended up getting some money for christmas, most of it went to other hobbies and some car fixes but the rest I put towards this tetradrachm. I have wanted it for almost a year and after thinking it over and budging the price down a bit, its now mine. Surprisingly tetradrachms of Claudius arent as rare like his imperials, it's still pretty cool to own though. Claudius (41 - 54 A.D.) EGYPT ALEXANDRIA Billon Tetradrachm O: TI KLAUDI KAIS SEBA GERMANI AUTOKR, laureate head of Claudius right, LΓ (date) before. R: MESSALI-NA KAIS SEBAS, Messalina standing facing, head left, leaning on draped column, holding figures of two children in extended right hand and cradling two grain ears in left arm. Year 42 - 43 A.D. 13.1g 25mm RPC I 5131
Got this from a fairly recent Great Collections auction. Didn't have big bucks to spend but didn't want "details" either. 1857 Seated Liberty Quarter I guess if I was looking for "halfway decent", I LITERALLY got there with a VF35! She can "sit" with my only other Seated coin... Rob
Nice original. Never be dissapointed with one of those ill buy everyone I come across if the price right. There's alwaysxa ready market
Almost as old as me and in a lot better shape bicentennial baby myself I'd say about vg -8 details repaired right about now
Haha, never looked at it like that. Coins from alexandria during roman rule werent as "refined" as some other territories. Love the copper, Joe2007
I think this one looks awesome for a 65 with some super bold bell lines. Was sifting through a box of foreign coins at the LCS yesterday and this one just jumped out at me. I don't know anything about the coin but I think the design is really cool, there is so much detail in the eagle, and I like the color a lot.
