Still slowly plugging away from my last batch of pickups. I still got a few more to go but for now here is this. Constantine I, Follis: commemorative Thessalonica mint 330-333 AD AE19 , 2.6g O: VRBS ROMA, helmeted and cuirassed bust of Roma left R: Wolf and twins Romulus & Remus, two stars above, exergue SMTSE Sear 16516
I like you, icerain ... that's a sweet new score (congrats) Ummm, I also have an example ($80 delivered ... ummm, did I pay too much?) ... I'm not a judger Cheers
Yes, you paid too much. To relieve you of the pain of constantly been reminded of that you can send it to me. But yours is in better condition though.
The question is how badly you want a mint state coin as opposed to a semi-presentable one like my $10 specimen here. Ancients are becoming like modern coins in that the price difference between MS 65 and MS 66 is 100% not 1% as it once was. Would you rather have one like yours or a set of one from each mint in fine? We each make our choices.
I look at these at times but I pay attention to any marks between the two stars on the reverse. There is a whole series that can be collected of these. The most expensive and desirable being a ChiRo symbol.
Anything that makes a coin different can add demand but not all of them are scarce. In addition to extra stuff at the top, some people watch the shoulder of the wolf for variations in decor.
There are probably a hundred variations of this coin. The symbols by the stars, wolf shoulder and head, and mintmark. And to top it off, the seller had the wrong info. on the label. It took me awhile to id my coin correctly.
Again => your coin is very cool => it has nice eye-appeal (I really like the grey-blue patina colour) sweet purchase, my friend
I have maybe 1000 of these URBS Roma coins, I pick out the best for my collection..... This is one such coin...
Wow, YOC => yah, those babies are both awesome!! (I'm totally jealous of both of those super-sweet reverses)
