Those who like to research their coins by comparing them to other specimens need to be aware of this resource for Roman Republicans: http://numismatics.org/crro/search Type a key word in the box and search for coins in public collections that respond to that key. I suggest you not try things like denarius or Roma or you will be buried in hits but try Medusa or ship and see a few more than you expected. You can refine searches if you get too many. They lack images on some which makes the resource less useful to me but there are many images. There is also an Imperial resource by the same people but they have relatively few images and next to none on coins of my specialties. http://numismatics.org/ocre/search
That is fricken awesome!! (wow, very cool ... and very dangerous!!) => great .... I hit one simple search and now I already want to buy a new coin!! WARNING => this link is kinda like Crack-for-coin-collectors!!
exactly, JA ... those big babies are top-drawer (in "my" opinion, these are way ahead of EID-MAR-ish coins) ....... ummm, please don't hit me, or call me bombastic!! (thanks) => but wow, you're correct => man, those babies are definitely atop my "Dream-list" Master-Angler Trophies!!
Well, I don't know if the stuff I like is really rare or what but it seems they can't find the few I have typed so far. Going to play around a bit more with the site and see.
Give an example. I was trying to learn to use it and was doing well with the Republicans. The Imperial hardly has enough photos to be useful yet.
