; Vespasian As/ dupondius

    i buy this as a As coin/ on the dutch forum they say it is a dupondius

    I dont whye it has not a radiate crown.

    mint As
    mm/10.49 gm

    Lugdunum: (Lyon mint)
    Struck: 77-78 AD

    OBV: Laureate head right.
    Rev: SC across field/eagle standing facing on globe, head right with wings spread.

    Vespasian has dupondii both with and without the radiate crown. The difference is the yellow orichalcum on the dupondii and the red copper on the asses. Some of his asses are larger in diameter than some of the dupondii but they are usually lighter and thinner. The OP coin is a very nice dupondius. Coins with patina are not as easy to separate but my first below is an as while the other two are dupondii.

    Very nice!

    Here's my Vespasian dupondius, with a radiate crown. You can see from its yellow colour, similar to yours, that its material is the orichalcum of a dupondius.
