Try again. But what appears to be coming off ? Are you saying the rim is coming off the coin ??

The last picture is definately the best of the three, but that is a weird error......almost looks like the rim is metal strip that is added after minting and this just curled past where it should have stopped. We all know that isnt how it happens, that is what I think it looks like.

I know what you mean. Thanks for your input! I looked at it and it is just puzzling to me. Wondering if anyone knew anything about it. Anyone feel free to put my curious mind to rest lol.

It resembles finning, only it is occurring on the edge of the coin instead of the rim. It is a puzzler

Yeah I know. It has me confused. Would it be something maybe sending Ken Potter a few pics? Thanks for the help so far. Oh, and also, it might not be to important, but it is a Minnesota and it is silver. Thanks so far.

Go ahead and send the pics - worst he can do is tell you it's nothing.

That is finning. The fin is created between the collar and the edge of the die, right at the outermost edge of the coin. As the metal is squeezed out it has a flat surface on the die side and a corragated surface on the collar side. In this case the fin is very thin and is starting to break off. Some times a fin like that will break off and fall into the coining chamber and the next coin struck will have a "struck through reeding" error.

It is? I didn't know finning could be that small. Thanks though. I'm waithing to hear what Ken Potter has to say too though. Thanks for the help so far! BTW, if it is finning, what would the value be on a proof coin?
