Apologies for the blurry photo... Laos, Lucania, AR stater, c 480-460 BC. OBV: Man-headed bull standing left, with head reverted; ΛAΣ (retrograde) above / REV: Man-headed bull standing right on exergual line; ΛAΣ (retrograde) above. Laos was located at the mouth of the Lao river, which was the ancient boundary between Bruttium and Lucania. The local river god appears on all known silver coins of the city, and on both sides of this stater! Ed Waddell had just put this coin out and, not knowing if I would ever see another one, I snatched it up. All coinage of Laos (Laus) is rare and this coin is very rare. SNG ANS lists 446 silver coins for Metapontum and 7 for Laos. Sear, Greek Coins (1978, No. 232) values it at £1,250. An unexpected and welcome addition to the collection.
Nice coin, I bet in hand it looks awesome. Yeah, for a minute I thought I forgot how to count. Where is no. 3?
As I tried to explain, this thread was actually coin #1, but I didn't know there were more to come at the time I posted it: https://www.cointalk.com/threads/my-first-acquisition-of-2015.257675/ So #1 is actually #2, #2 is actually #3, therefore the Loas became #4. Now you're probably more confused than before!
You're like fricken Superman right now => coin after coin, after coin, after coin ... nuthin' but winners!! (I totally know how you feel)
