you wanna see a penny with no date this is a penny with no date at all. one side doesn't even exist. just wanna possible worth have never seen another from that time era
I would recommend that you weigh the coin on an accurate digital scale. Canadian small cents from that time frame should weigh approximately 3.24 grams according to the Krause manual. If the coin has been sanded/polished/tooled down (Post-Mint-Damage, or PMD), it will weigh noticeably less than that and will basically be worth face value. If it weighs correctly, then maybe there were some striking issues at the mint and it could carry a slight premium, but I wouldn't think you've got a new house (or even a house payment) sitting there. Maybe a cup of Starbucks worth?
Someone has milled or ground off the reverse, possibly as a machining exercise, possibly to engrave a name as a love token, but they got dumped before the engraving was done, who knows? You will frequently find coins ground blank and engraved if you deal in general antiques.
Its thinner and colored as opossed to the obverse milled for some reason or another.I would still weigh it out of interest the info was provided above.
it has been weighed and also micrometer ed everything is the exact no shaving or love token rubbed so far top offer has been $48,000.00 because of its rarity. royal canadian mint has offered to take and test but i don't trust them.
the other thing we did to the coin was take it to the university of new brunswick and under a very high power microscope we could see the make up of the coin definitely was never struck on that side. most figures it is a plenchet split if that were true the weight would be there.
If it was a split planchet, it would weigh a good deal less. It would also have a grainy look (not smooth). I could be wrong, but from everything I have read and learned, there is no way to upset the blank (create the slightly raised rims) on only one side. I still think the reverse was sanded off. What is the exact weight?
Alloy: 95.5% copper, 3% tin and 1.5% zinc Weight: 3.24 grams Diameter : 19.05 mm all was done at the university of New Brunswick
another? what if someone had 1936 dot but through wear and tear the dot got rubbed off but are still able to see the impression where the dot was. what you ppl suggest on how to proceed...
I claim shenanigans! There's about a 0.000001% chance that coin was examined and all specs matched perfectly. I've weighed a ton of pre 1982 Lincoln Cents. One that weighs exactly 3.11 grams is 1 in a few hundred. I also don't believe the alloy mix would hit EXACT. Please don't take offense if what you say is true. It just seems a little far fetched to me.
Ok, be looking for me in a few days. Don't know how long it will take to drive there from South Carolina.
you know something a person comes here with a valid ? and gets treated like he is some no mind. when i give everything you want to know plus pictures. that is why it has been i my collection since i was 15 years old and now i am 38. when i was 23 my father and i took the coin, to a coin show in moncton n.b. and the guy that owns loyalist city coin in Nova Scotia after only looking at the coin for less than 45 secs makes an offer not too me the owner but to my father of $48,000.00. must mean he either seen something or was blowing smoke out his *** before we knew it he had a bank draft out and ready to fill it out. but like my father and i said if in 45 secs he was willing to pay $48,000.00 then the coin has to hold a lot more value than just $48,000.00 so we didn't take it. that day he wasn't the only coin collector to make an offer their were 7 others. now you may ask well why did you keep it this long. bc i went away to serve my country and forgot about the coin till my dad said, rob when are you ever going to sell that penny. well he has joined a few forums and has received very welcoming responses versus here where folks that have commented only mean to deter people like me from asking valid questions. just to let you all know i have a vast collection been collecting since i was five. so i am no stranger to the collecting world but hey MAYBE THIS IS THE WRONG FORUM. P.S. and no i do not know who this is jcharmsway who owns a rare 1988 LOBERTY Penny?
understood where it has been so long since i have seen it. today i will get it out of my fathers safety deposit box. and i will re take it to unb and picture of it on their scales.. is their anything that i do or picture that would help to determine its possible value.
