A friend of mine asked his Mom in N.J. to get some rolls. The banker told her to come back tomorrow and they well have some rolled by then.
Is this true? Can the banks actually re-roll circulated dollars back into the N.F. String & Son rolls or not? If they do re-roll do they use different wrappers?
I need to know if my rolls from my bank were opened , handled, checked and rolled again.
    Thanks for the input, DON

Banks have a supply and supply their customers with coin wrappers. Not like the machine wrapped coinage that your looking for. This dollar with be circulated in rolls with SAC's and SBA's, eventually.

Excuse my ignorance but what are SAC's and SAB's?

Those are the Sacagawea's and Susan B Anthony dollars.

I am refering to the Washington dollars. Can they be re-rolled by the banks back in the original wrappers?

Not in the original wrappers - those are torn.

They can, however, and either they or their armored car company, roll circulated coins in new wrappers. If they are among the majority of banks/armored carriers who use N.F. String's wrappers, then yes, they will roll them in that type of wrappers. There will be no outward indication whether a particular roll contains fresh uncirculated coins, or circulated coins, so long as the wrapper is machine crimped.

I hate to let you in on this secret, but as a retiree from the financial services industry, I can assure you that banks are not in business to benefit collectors. :p

lol That is the solid truth. But, banks aren't out there for collectors, they are out there for other reasons and purposes. But here isn't the place to go into great detail. :p But you hit it on the head Roy. But, they do help the hobby. My bank is very coin collector friendly though. So, you never know. To answer your question, the coins right now you get from the bank aren't searched, but some rolls can be rerolled to look like that.Except I only see that on cents and nickels. But I think they take machines to do that. Good question though. Although, Roy is right, they can't roll them in the original rolls. Hope this helps.

    Actually Becky, that's a customer's roll.

If the bank had machine rolled it, it would look exactly like the ones that come from the armored car companies.

My husband picked that up at the bank for me yesterday. When he asked for a roll of new dollars, that is what they gave him.

I know for a fact that the bank I use for return coin drops has plenty of those rolls:) In my case they are still untouched but have been searched!

Well great input from everyone. To add a little fuel to the fire I called my bank today and they told me that the coins I got were in fact untouched as of now. But soon the would be coming from a "vendor" at which point all bets are off.
And I guess to answer my question we can get searched rolls if the bank or "Vendor " uses the same make of roll the originals were in. I think this should be regulated or controlled so we as collectors know the difference.
And last but not least I am sorry to say that this coin "The Washington" Dollar is about the least attractive coin I have just about ever seen. It doesn't look like they put a real lot of effort into it. I mean look at the technology we have today and this is what they put out? Did anyone see the size of Liberty's ears?
I really don't mean to offend anyone this is just "MY" opinion. AND WE ALL KNOW WHAT THEY SAY ABOUT OPINIONS.
    THANKS Don
