ok. I just e-mailed the seller and asked him if he thought it was N.T. or A.T. and he said 100% N.T. since he took it directly out of the mint packaging. hmmmm
I tried to photograph this coin with my iPhone in indirect sunlight yesterday afternoon. I didn't capture it as well as PCGS TrueView did, but not too bad for a hand-held camera phone. My lighting "setup" is quite effective for toners, it's indirect sunlight from above (through 2 skylights in my addition, which you can see reflected in the slab plastic). I cannot make iPhone images nearly this good using artificial light or standing next to a vertical window. Kind of interesting.
my new 1965 silver Canada Proof Like 50 cent piece bought off Ebay. this kind of toning makes me all warm and fuzzy inside. more pics when I get it. sellers pics:
The PCGS sniffer will not detect if a coin is AT. It is used to detect other chemicals used in cleaning or manipulating the metal. Things like puddy, etc.. However, if a regular submission comes back as "questionable color", resubmitting under secure will often lead to it getting slabbed. The extra fee is like hush money.
I was bored, here's a @Mainebill coin that I have laying around: Toning may be a little controversial, what say you?
I'm always a little surprised how quickly some modern clad coins tone. These 2 coins are not valuable, but I sure like he way they look.
