I am probably going to try metal detecting for the first time this spring. I was wondering if anyone knew of any good locations in West Virginia, western Maryland, or southern Pennsylvania that a beginner could start? I am not looking to get rich, but just have some fun. Thanks in advance for any input.
Hi Bob I also want to start doing it but do not want to get locked up for some trespassing law. I guess I better not try it at Valley Forge LOL. I would like to know myself where not to go as far as public areas. I'm only 50 mile from the ocean and only like 15 from Phila so I'm sure there got to be place around here that allow and forbid it. Here is couple links to the companies the first one sells Garretts cheaper then the company that makes them http://www.detection.com/garrett/ http://www.whiteselectronics.com/homepagew.html ----------------------------------------------------------- The Federation of Metal Detector and Archaeological Clubs http://www.fmdac.org/index.html
Howdy, Not familiar with where you're at and you want to watch out for trespassing and all. However, do a little history research if you're going to be prospecting. For example, at one time that area (most all of ours) was literally criss-crossed with railroads. Every little burg that has Junction as part of its name was just that. Find where the old rail lines went to and from and crossed. Old cemetaries. All beaches. good luck, rono
Some of my best metal detecting days came as I checked under playground equipment at old, closed down school grounds, in parking lots, under the old open bleachers at sporting events like car races, etc. Clinker
