Hey all. I was just looking over at the bay and saw this auction: http://www.ebay.com/itm/GIORI-SUPER...283?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item4acbf5992b
And I thought, "Hey! Didn't I see something similar on pawn stars?"

So I googled it and found this review of that episode: http://lasvegasbadger.blogspot.com/2013/08/pawn-stars-review-august-8-2013.html
To save you time, they bought it for $3300. For a single test note, albeit with extra paper PCGS

The one in this ebay auction in an uncut pair and WAY cooler IMO than the one they got, with a BIN of $699 (free shipping and also PCGS)!!!!!

I wish I had the dough. This thread woulda been all, "Hey look what I got nyah nyah!"

Since I can't afford it right now, I hope one of you pals o' mine gets it and shares some high res photos here. Well? Go get it! Show me! ;) :p

$699 is a bit high for this pair. There were a large number of test notes and sheets released (as many as 16 notes per sheet). Some, like Jefferson in the middle are rarer. As are the ones with serial numbers.

These are the common ones and don't go for much. An auction of two pieces (each front & back) sold for $282.00: http://currency.ha.com/c/item.zx?saleNo=3524&lotNo=21655

So I'll take $141.00 over $699.00 every day.

I bet the pawn shop had no expert who could testify to the value and learned their lesson later after monstrously overpaying. But with the show making so much money, and some of the staff obviously on drugs, I think they won't sulk about it for too long.

Getting them to buy it again for $3300 would be a feat. Maybe if they're drugged up enough it could happen. Haha.

EDIT: However, if the note was a single front/back, black ink with Jefferson, or some other unique features, then it could be worth more. $3000+? Still way too much.

This episode was discussed on the PCGS forum earlier this year as members there were involved in it.

The Giori sheets belonged to a member of that forum who found them in upstate New York in the possession of someone who worked for the printer. He started selling them on Ebay at prices well below the going rate at the time. I snagged a two note pair for $120.00 as a BIN from him.

The sheet on Pawn Stars was his. He appears in the episode as the owner. (This is not always the case as sometimes actors portray the owners of items. What! A reality show that is not real! No way!) The expert they called in is Laura Kessler one of the owners of PCGS currency.

I may not remember this part correctly, but I do not think they really bought the sheet despite what appears on the show. I know that was the result with another piece of paper money that appeared on the show, a large size star note that remained in a dealer's inventory after it appeared on the show.

I think the Pawn Stars bought like an uncut sheet of 10 of these....hence the price I think they paid around 3k for them I don't remember exactly. I don't collect notes but am a big fan of the Pawn Stars

These guys have a table at FUN this year although I haven't seen any of the "stars" there yet. Maybe today, since this is should be the best attended. I wonder if they'll charge for photos ...

Welcome Terry, thanks for stopping by!

Care to give us the back story on the pawn stars episode? I've always been curious about how the pawn stars dudes seem to know something about everything. Did you have to give them some sort of crib sheet in advance, so they appeared to know about this test sheet? Was there a preset price/haggling plan in advance? I'm curious to know how it all worked!

Pawn stars is not staged other than if you have an interesting enough Item they allow you to present it for sale while being filmed. The deal is actual and the money real. You barter yourself for your own item and how much you want. I was really lucky and got a great price from Rick. A couple scenes were redone because I turned my back to the camera. But the same exact things were said. It was great fun and really kool .

i wonder how much they would pay for a full uncut sheet of 32 today?

  12. Dear fellow currency collectors: Can anyone please tell me how much these notes are worth? I purchased it for about $100. It is the Jefferson Giori note with a serial number printed in red. Please watch. I bought it from a foreign auction house and thought I got a good deal because of the serial numbered Jefferson being on there. One of the notes has a small corner crease the other one is probably M63 or M65 at least. Thanks everyone.
