What does everyone think? Is this Morgan fake or Real? I personally think that it is a fake. The weight is equal to a real Morgan. But it has a kinda weird feeling too it. Sort of gritty.
I think it's real but with saying that fakes are getting ready good. Without a lop in hand and checking out key items all we can do is guess.
The date and In God We Trust has got me questioning it. But By no means am an expert in determining fakes (More of a rookie that can tell the easy stuff)
I'm leaning to fake as the date , especially the 9 looks off . Wish we had clearer pics though . How is the 3rd side , are the grooves fairly equal , do any overlap ?
When the news broke about 6 years ago on the Chinese counterfeiter, Jinghuashei, one of the things I remembered that he said in the article published in Coin World was that not only did they copy uncirculated coins, but they also aged some to pass them off as circulated coins. It didn't matter if they were key dates or not because the price of silver was still cheap. Chris
That coin is not silver, is just a bad alloy fake, I bet it weighs way less than it should. It is artificially toned.
The Op said the weight was right on . It does have that color of some Chinese fakes . Though I'd love to see a close up of the rim .
Here's some pics of the rims and stuff. Sorry they're blurry. I don't have the proper equipment. I figured it was a fake. I bought it off Ebay and thought that it was fake and sent it back, got it back saying that it was undeliverable.
Looks like the eagles right wing is ready to fall off! The "9" is off. Details are mushy in the reverse too.
I don't like the details of it especially the obverse but a better color job then most a tough call for me 70/30 is fake
I would agree with the date. In the hand the edges are lacking in depth and detail. and it just feels super off. Oh well. I tried to send it back and it went no where. Live and learn. Thanks guys!
