Yup, it may have taken me a couple of weeks, but I finally managed to score a sweet coin and lost my 2015 coin-virginity!! (*phew* ... now I want a smoke and a nap)

    ;)

    ... anyway ...

Yah, AncientJoe recently posted an even sweeter example than my new sweetie (go figure, eh?), but I am still considering this new addition to be top-drawer of the stevex6 collection!!

Sure, I realize that there aren't any animals on this baby, but for some reason I was drawn to it's simple beauty ... I think it's pretty slick!!

Achaean League. Lakedaemon. AR Hemidrachm, circa 175-168 BC.

I get a kick out of this Achaean League issue which seems to vary the most of all in terms of price. There are several variations but some people are willing to pay more for a coin of Lakedaemon(Sparta) than for cities they have never heard of. Sparta issued no coins when they were a major power in Greece but centuries later the relatively unimportant remains issued these as members of the League. Does that make them more collectible? If you want a coin of Sparta, this is the choice. Some dealers sell them cheap; others go for the moon.

Thanks for the positive coin-compliments, gang (I always like hearing feedback) ... I went searching around for a sec, trying to find out a bit more about the ancient city of Pallantion ...
... it is always such a cool extra getting to learn a bit about history, while drooling over these incredible coins, eh?

Uh-oh, now I have another side-avenue to drive down!! ...

=> yup, collecting a few of the different cities associated with the Achaean League!!

    :woot:
