One that surprised me, a rather common low value coin; shown sold by a known bad seller, the listing removed by eBay immediately on reporting. These folks realize someone is watching and start short sale listings... "You judge"...
GOOD EYE!! They would have gotten a bid from me if I was searching for that type coin, before switching to "Top Tier" TPG graded coins, preferably with a "bean". JMHO
I think many of us have to be honest - if the coin was put in front of me. Would I be able to tell it?
The date is pretty bad, but your mantra "Attribution!" applies. The coin has the wrong type for both obverse and reverse for 1913 - the obverse is pre-1901 and the reverse "wide BUS" disappeared after 1906. Compare the inner ear (obverse) and where the eagle's beak points in relation to S (reverse). I bet @justafarmer would have picked this one out of the lineup.
If it's authentic, it's under-graded! If it's not authentic, it's just a piece of metal that can't be graded. Mr. Young and eBay stated/showed their opinion, which I boldly AFFIRMED! Please do as poster asked, rather than posting a possible challenge to suggested authenticity/grade! "YOU JUDGE"
Well, after looking at that, I would have been stumped myself. Now, I wonder if this one is genuine, I know it isn't as in good condition, but now I wonder. Anyone like to help me out, I bought it 3 days ago. Regards.
Genuine @Sting 60 . You might notice that the mint mark style matches the other genuine coin above, but the counterfeit has an earlier style S.
Really? Since your discovery article was published that's the first thing I look for on the reverse. The counterfeit here also has the vertical banner tip of Rev 1. With your permission, image from your article showing the subtle changes to Rev 2 (introduced 1901, no Rev 1 found past 1905).
Embarrassing ain't it. Just don't know if authenticating a coin such as this would even cross my mind. Now if the coin was struck during the transition period - I'd certainly look harder at the reverse. But that wouldn't provide me with any reliable information as to its authenticity.
Okay, now I get it, learned something new today. Thank you for the guidance and now I feel a little better. Super job. Regards.
The date was a giveaway to me but I collect Barbers. @KBBPLL diagnostics are terrific. Thanks to both of you guys for fighting the good fight.
