Yet another gold coin I'm considering purchasing. Does it seem real?

I am determined to have a gold coin in my collection, no matter how damaged or cheap I have to go.

Quite honestly, I think it's too rough to be fake :-D

I've bought very nice gold dollars for under $140. Just have patience.

They are out there for sure at a reasonable price. I bought a 1851 $1 for $135 I believe that if not for a small scratch on the observe it would be AU. I guess its still AU, just has that scratch damage. The scratch doesn't bug me at all though as I love the coin.

How much are you going to pay for that one?

Plenty of affordable gold coin choices other than a numismatic disaster.

AU $2.5 Gold Indians come to mind. Why not look at the Gold Silver Eagles, bullion?

I'd rather by a gold bar than that coin.

hey, guys, he may be able to get it near melt!

Just a nice bullion buy, and fun.

Especially if he can't afford to pay more.

A B.U. 1/10th ounce eagle for under $150.00 and something to be proud of.

I would rather have old gold for the same price. Like I said, have patience and you can find a decent one. New one is linked directly to gold value, old one will always be cooler (IMO)

And of course I lost. The coin got bid up to $122. It's hardly $50 worth of gold and looks like a dog digested it.

Obviously not a seasoned or discriminating collector at this price.
