Hi my currency friends. A friend won this as a prize at the local coin club and I can't find anything about it.

From the Google images I have found, i can't even tell if it's real.

Can anyone give me some info?

No wonder it was a prize - 1866 notes only valued at 5-7$

yeah, I found that same site. The note that i have has a different date and Minerva seems to have much more ink on mine. These could inconsistencies that happened in this era, but truthfully, I don't know. I was hoping that someone could actually authenticate it or tell me that it's counterfeit.

    Thanks for your reply, Markus.

Well your note says Oct 14th 1861 at lower left and states "must be used at the treasury by January 1st 1866".

Just trying to fiqure out a reason why you stated your note has a different date? They were made on different dates in October 1861 but all had to be used by Jan 1866.

because I haven't seen any known genuine notes dated Oct 14th.

Oh I see! Maybe that's the only way to get around not having to state it is not real on the note??

that was one of my thoughts, yes.

It's genuine, with some extra ink. This particular version of that note was issued with dates from the 10th through the 21st. Yours was issued out of the Bank of Charlotte. I'd value it around $15.
