Hi my currency friends. A friend won this as a prize at the local coin club and I can't find anything about it. From the Google images I have found, i can't even tell if it's real. Can anyone give me some info?
Looks legit by the signature - here's a link for you . http://currency.ha.com/c/search-res...Desc&Nty=1&Ntt=north+carolina+raleigh+$1+1866
This one-dollar note, dated October 12, 1861, is printed on plain paper. Like most North Carolina currency, its reverse had no design but simply said “one dollar.” The figure at left is Minerva, the Roman goddess of wisdom, who appeared frequently on paper money at the time. yeah, I found that same site. The note that i have has a different date and Minerva seems to have much more ink on mine. These could inconsistencies that happened in this era, but truthfully, I don't know. I was hoping that someone could actually authenticate it or tell me that it's counterfeit. Thanks for your reply, Markus.
[QUOTE= The note that i have has a different date and Minerva seems to have much more ink on mine. Well your note says Oct 14th 1861 at lower left and states "must be used at the treasury by January 1st 1866".
Just trying to fiqure out a reason why you stated your note has a different date? They were made on different dates in October 1861 but all had to be used by Jan 1866.
that was one of my thoughts, yes. that's why I posted it here. Some of the most knowledgeable people I know read this forum.
It's genuine, with some extra ink. This particular version of that note was issued with dates from the 10th through the 21st. Yours was issued out of the Bank of Charlotte. I'd value it around $15.
