If buying expensive key date coins in high grade, absolutely. Capping your purchases at $104 (which would translate to generic pieces in low to mid mint state condition at best or only slightly better dated circulated pieces) would limit risk unless you do something crazy like buying whizzed raw pieces. Stick to PCGS/NGC coins and I think it is safe (even though certainly TPGs make mistakes).
Call Apmex. They will price ok. They also sell on eBay. You won't get ripped off with them and you could buy a pcgs uncirculated Morgan for half your budget
The op never said it had to be a ms65. Maybe you should read the thread before giving out your comments .
Oh sorry I didn't take the time to read the thread just the first post and then yours. Now I'm very busy so I'll just insult you and be on my way.
Not too long ago, the pieces were selling in the $115-$120 range, which really isn't that much of a stretch. That is the price I had in mind when I posted that. Nevertheless, searching the "completed listing features," I see a number of pieces below $110 and some below $104 including a MS65 PCGS OGH. http://www.ebay.com/itm/1883-O-Morg...71?pt=Coins_US_Individual&hash=item58b8f31857
You should buy it from vette1986. He does auctions. You might get a high quality morgan dollar for a low price. Link: http://www.ebay.com/sch/vette1986/m.html?_nkw=&_armrs=1&_ipg=&_from=
He could download a two week old issue of CDN relatively cheaply which will give him indications on what any given date may be selling for. The value with ebay is you can make lower offers, sometimes you can get a deal that way. And Northeast Coin does have good turnover and inventory.
Solid advice....except I'd go after a nice MS example. If you ever go to sell an average circ Morgan, you'll also only get about melt. OP - Go look at them yourself, pick one with the price and eye appeal you're after.
