Value? Rarity? I don't know alot about either. Acquired both and many more while working in a liquor store while in college. Most all of the foreign currency I have came from military service people willing to part with their last dime.
You can often find both in 1 lb. bags of world coins for $6.99. Check sold auctions on Ebay for each coin, that will give you an idea of what people are actually paying. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/CHOICE-MI...UK_Coins_BritishMilled_RL&hash=item3a9a8fee5f
Welcome to the forum @Hommer I'm no authority on foreign coins, but one good place to start is to use ebay compleyed sold auction for your coins. You search the coin, once you find results that match, you can define the search, under the refine setting tgere is a chec box for sold auctions. Make sur you don't just set it to completed, but sold. That Mexican coin is cool, diggin' the beard.
Well sometimes that is easier said than done. First you have to know what you're looking at. And......... In my case I don't. I am happy to know that based on the ones that I do know or could find info on are worth a bit more than $6.99. Maybe I should give up on my quest for all CC Morgans and buy up a horde of grab bags. Any takers on these?
Ohh and thanks for the welcome. No-one around here is interested in coins except me unless you count my wife and her only interest is whether it will buy another pair of shoes.
You have 3 Japanese coins and a Philippines coin. The India and Caribbean are obvious. All common as far as I know.
. I think it is a good looking coin too. I did an internet search for that coin and it brought me here. I found an old thread on it. I read where the president of Mexico had declared it worthless. I don't understand the thinking on that. It definitely reinforces my thought that we should buy that place, fix it up, and flip it.
@Hommer - LO! I'm a bit of a real estate dabbler myself, so that was pretty funny...makes sense. Maybe we could just print the money to buy it I wouldn't get rid of your lot. You kept'em because they caught your eye before you knew what their value was. That's the root of coin collecting...the numismatics of it all comes after that collection bug takes hold. I don't have my original stash any more, i sold it for "better stuff"...wish I hadn't. That old original stash is in a way a time capsule...reminds you of your first steps into the hobby...good times. That last group of pics you posted with the two Chinese(?) coins and the British Caribbean Territories coin, the top Chinese(?) coin, looks like it could be a higher grade, maybe high XF to low AU, looks like it has some neat toning.
I started collecting coins at about 10, my dad collected circulated coins. Never knew him to buy them just for collective porposes but do remember him going through his change everyday. He had some really nice silver that was left to me a couple years ago. I never got to play with any of it but I was always full of questions and he would answer the best he could. He wasn't a highly educated man but had an enormous amount of wisdom and a big heart. The Morgans were my favorite and still are. That is a beautiful coin. It not only shows the great artistic ability of the American people but also the reverse shows our might. Although I do like the eagle on the reverse of the Barber a bit more because, to me anyway, it shows a bit more fearsome and determined we as a nation are to sustain Liberty. My first coins were Ikes that I bought from the bank a little over 40 years ago and still have them. Big coins make big eyes on a young boy. I have collected Silver Eagles which is another beautiful coin but it does disappoint me some that the strike on the unc version of this coin is kinda weak on the obverse. To me our coinage represents us as a nation and it all should look like we take great pride in what we do.
