So......I have casually looked for an original silver dollar mint bag for some time now. I was able to buy one recently from the New Orleans mint, and had the opportunity to get one from CC, but could not justify the price on that one.
Does anyone here own any of these? And perhaps willing to sell any? Your comments on this topic are appreciated. For having thousands of these bags around, years ago, there seems to be none around anymore.

All the old silver dollars were stored in 1000 coin bags in the vaults, some of which actually made it into the very early 1980's! and were sold in the famous GSA sales, which were held in the early to mid 1970's and again in 1980. Ill try to get you a pic......

I'm going to guess that the Mint did not save any of the bags for those coins removed in the sales of the 60's & 70's. It's a shame, because they were selling the newest canvas bags for $8 each in 2005 when they started using the (plastic) ballistic bags.

My guess is that the only bags still in existence are primarily those from old bank hoards.

I know folks used to be able to buy full bags ($1000) from banks or the treasury. And old time dealers bought and sold full bags. Who knows......there are probably a few full bags around in someone's collection. All I know is I'd like a few of them, (empty bags, since that's what I can afford!) if anyone has any.
