I'm finding that out...even though I'm more of a Barber coin guy (or so I thought). Almost forgot about these two. Paid $9.99 each (eBay) for 'em.
Nice 10 cent piece and fish scale. I like the fact that the early Canadian coins (excluding cents) were sterling (92.5%) and not just standard coin silver (80% Ag for Canadian 10, 25, and 50 cent pieces I believe).
Commemoratives in general are underappreciated as a low mintage coin because many were saved in a high state of preservation; yet, the 1936 Norfolk, a 1-year issue, is valued around $500 in MS65, so why not look at high grade examples with original surfaces for a change-of-pace to your regular coin acquisitions? I do like your latest acquisition!
Canadian coins <¤> In a nutshell yes but mintage are low population coins in Ch VF grades..date are the key in Great Britain and Canadian coins.
1928-D Standing Liberty Quarter (PCGS AG3). I bought this raw coin on eBay in Oct for $21.50. Just got the grade and photo back from PCGS. About Good (AG3). The biggest thing for me was they blessed the color and gave it a problem-free grade. I think this is stunning and is the kind of material that bowls me over. I think the color happened like that because oils from people's hands protected the heavily worn areas of the coin from reacting with the environment (sort of like an air-tight oily casing on heavily worn regions of the coins surface) -- while in protected regions of the coin there was less oil and the environment reacted with the silver to produce that stunning rainbow color. Some of the same rainbow palette can be seen on the reverse in protected area, but the obverse is the monster side. It might be close to the best PCGS-graded rainbow color that I've ever seen on a Standing Liberty Quarter, in any grade.
I can't blame you for acquiring that SLQ--it is a beauty for the toning. Some might say that you way overpaid for an AG3 coin, and for what it cost to get slabbed, but not me. I can guarantee you that someone who likes SLQs, but cannot afford the $ that it would take to buy a higher grade Rainbow Target Toned coin, would be interested in that one!
Just sealed the deal on this one, "No Drapery" Dime. First 2015 purchased, used some coin funds from taking coin pics for other members.
Left some bids at a local auction got this one 1860 tougher date and I couldnt seem to get a decent pic of it
And I got this one. Spectacular originality especially the reverse. Also a real nice die crack across the date and up the left side I'll send em both off to be graded
Gold dollar a lot nicer then the pics I just have an awful time with them a good original xf-45 with a mintage of 37k or so
