I'm guessing that it is Unc, and that the scratches are on the case, so I would go 63/64. Just something about it to me. Very nice looking Morgan BTW. Phoenix
I would say that it graded AU 50. Looks like it has been cleaned at one point, but PCGS probably just "net graded" this one because the 1884-S is a somewhat key date in higher grades.
This coin has been cleaned, much like every other 84-s. I'd say it has au-53+ details, but most likely was graded an au-50. Not sure why these virtually always have been scrubbed up.
Yeah, I cannot believe it is in a holder, but the TPGs tend to let a lot of cleaning slide on some of the condition sensitive Morgans, especially the 1884-S. At least its in a holder now and not being sold to some sucker on ebay as a MS-64 for thousands.
pcgs graded it xf45.... i agree with zane as in many of these have the same appearance..i run into a few other dates that have the same tendency. its not a bad looking coin in hand tho....
i'd love to be showing you all gem state morgans as i'm building my set...but my budget simply doesn't allow it..have to do the best i cam w/in a reasonable price range...sorry for generic grade morgans but i am happy with the set i'm building...thanks all for looking
I can understand that and don't be sorry for building a generic grade morgan set or for even having a cleaned coin. I think you have a great set going.
Your welcome. I don;t know about everyone else, but I am sure enjoying the threads. Keep them coming! :thumb: Phoenix
