Until today, I don't think I have ever gotten a silver quarter in my change since I became smart enough to start checking. It's a 1963-D...
Woo Hoo! I still get a thrill finding a wheat cent in my change, but I haven't found a silver quarter in my change in over thirty years.
It doesn't happen very often. 1 or two in change in many years and about 7 maybe in past seven years of CRH. Endeavor... any silver is good!
I think that happened with the 32 walking liberty half dollars + a 1964 quarter a cashier had at the supermarket. I know a bank teller who once had a person deposit 50 Morgan Dollar. According to her she tried to let the person know that they were worth money but the person did not care. She is definitely lucky though.
I love hearing that high pitched ring when receiving change. I haven't had that happen in many years. Congrats on your find.
Sweet. 2014 was a banner year for me: 6 silver dimes from a CoinStar machine and 2 silver quarters - one from AutoZone and the other at a casino.
Probably lol. I keep wondering about the possibilities of how this coin made its way to me. Could it be "the kid raid" scenario, or maybe someone had it in a jar for a few decades and finally decided to spend it. I mean who knows?! Sometimes not knowing the story makes it more intriguing. I think one thing we can mostly agree on is that it most probably sat in one place (or low number of places) before getting back into "the wild". However I also wonder what the odds are that it may have been getting passed frequently without falling into the hands of someone who checks. Probably astronimical, but wouldn't that be amazing! Thank you. I was surprised at how much different it sounds compared to a clad. It certainly is a sweet sound. I think a fellow member here (bugo) once referred to that sound as a "sweet jangle". I think of that term now every time I hear it.
Huh, I also got a 1963D quarter in change at a Pizza Hut last week... someone release a roll of 63d's into circulation recently?
I'm 14 and I go to a Middle School in Pa. I'm always checking my change for coins such as your 1963 Quarter. One day I was walking to class and I noticed a dime on the floor. I picked it up and it was a 1945 Mercury Dime. I was so excited I still can't believe I found it at my Middle School. It was most likely what you said someone stealing the Grampa's coin collection and whoever did it just happened to drop a Mercury dime.
Cool find last silver quarter I got was at the gardiner maine tool booth about 7 years ago before I got ezpass second I saw it I knew what it was the color dead giveaway. Went thru a giant box of change recent and found all of 2 wheaties and z ton of canadian
Three of this date/mint in circulation show up in one month? Seems pretty odd. I'm in the mid-atlantic region, where are you other two located?
