I ordered one in Nov. got it in Feb. I think the price was $19.95 from the mint. I noticed on ebay one went for $72. today.
Quite simple: It's a low mintage coin, with 250,000 sold in the 20th Anniversery Sets, and 200,000 singles sold. That's the lowest mintage of any of the uncirculated Silver Eagle coins, and I think only the 2006 Reverse Silver Proof and the 1995W Silver Proof Eagles have a lower mintage out of all of the silver Eagles.
One of my brothers gave me this last year for my birthday, they only paid the issue price for it... guess it was a good buy lol...
the multi page coin world advertisers have them at 79.95 ...i believe the total mintage for both the singles and the ones included in the 20th ase was 470000 (could be incorrect but think it was 250000 sets and 220000 singles..anyone buying them from the mint did well on all this stuff..i gave away some to family members for christmas(tho weren't recieved til after)...last yr seemed to be a good one for financial returns on these items...good for all who purchased!
I was lucky enough to order and get a single and one in the three coin set. I love the fact that they are in demand. They are at this point a "one of a kind" for the series. I believe if the mint releases a 2007W the demand for the 2006W with only increase. Very exciting to watch.
they were going for over $80 about 3 weeks back and now have seemed to calm down! That is the most profitable coin to have from 2006 - a 250% increase in value in 3 months!
After looking at some post in here and some recommendations I decided to get 5 for myself. A few friends at work collect on a limited basis so I decided to ask them If they wanted some while I ordered. Later I agreed to let one guy have one as he was not at work that day and I knew that I needed to order Anyhow I order 7 coins on 12/8. I read about the apparent oversell and figured I got in to late. By Some miracle I got the coins. I saw these coins go from an issue price of $20 to approximately $80 (on the secoundary market) from the time I ordered them till the time they were received . It was so nice to be able to share these coins with them. To me that was the most important part of getting my order filled. These 7 coins actually filled 4 orders. Told some of them that I wished I could get the proper documentation on the actually ship time on these. Probably could get them slabbed as "last hour of issue".
