    Hey everyone,
Today my mother paid a visit and as usual she gives me her pocket change to go through. I tried looking online but didn't find anything on this cent. Its a 1987-d cent and the work "liberty is double stamped. It is very light but its there. I have 2 pics. They are not the best but on the one you can deff sqee the doubling. Like I said, I wasn't able to find one online. Anyone know about it?

It looks like machine doubling to me.

Well if you look through a loop it is very close. Especially on the "I" in liberty. Chris... I don't know much about errors but if there is doubling, is matching doubling common?

Like Chris said, it is most likely MD. Try taking pictures of your coin head on. It makes it much easier to see what is going on than when they are shot at an angle.

I'm not sure I've ever seen Chris say something is other than MD... :p

Chris may be cantankerous, but he knows a lot. Even if he won't agree with me about some clashes! Kidding and love ya Chris!

I appreciate everyone's input. Its strange because if you look right on it looks fine but if you look with the coin slightly tilted it looks doubled. I know absolutely nothing about error coins so i figured I would ask. Again. Thanks for the input!

Haha, I just got Cherrypickers so I'm finally paying attention to varieties. I have kept anything I thought might be an error up until this point, but now I'm paying close attention to varieties. Honestly, I think half of those DDOs are MD so I'm inclined to listen to Chris (that and he's probably got more years experience collecting than I do on this earth).

Lol I hear ya. I do the same thing. Any little deformation I keep it deep in my pocked till I'm home and can check my pickers guide. I only have the 4th edition volume 2.

Also, if you click "reply" next to the message the person left that you want to reply to, it'll be more clear who you're talking to. I've noticed you not doing that in your threads so I just wanted to make sure you knew.

That is because it usually is machine doubling. However, I don't think you've ever seen me since it has been more than 30 years since I've been in the northwest.

Take a look at FS-901 on p.237 of Volume II. I was the first to report that coin in 2005. It was originally graded as a Mint error by NGC, PF70UCAM, and was finally added to the CPG in 2012 as a variety which made it the Top Pop. A couple months later, I was offered $1,000 for it and sold it to a west coast collector.
