Was going to use my "first coin for 2015" but I see thats already in use. Or I could have used "first coin received in 2015" since I bought this in 2014 and didn't receive it until now. Or I could use.... oh wait what was I going to post? Oh yeah coins here it is. Constantine X Ducas, Constantinople 1059 - 1067 A.D. Class F anonymous follis AE 28 , 6.3 grams O: IX-XC to right and left of Christ seated facing on throne, holding book of gospels in both hands R: ISXS bASILE bASIL - + - above, cross below Ref. SB 1856
You've got some great detail on the obverse of that coin. The type can get very mushy. Still, even on the better coins, Jesus looks like he's wearing a welder's mask.
Apparently he was a carpenter ... but perhaps he was a jack-of-all-trades? (the dude seemed to have skills to burn!!)
icerain, that's a great first-coin (congrats!) ... I have an example from a previous relative ... Anonymous Folles, Basil II & Constantine VIII 1020-1028 AD Christ Pantokrator & Legends on line
I'm going to try taking the picture again when I get home. The color doesn't look right, it should be brown not greenish.
Technically this type is medieval Although the 11th century was such a long time ago it might as well be ancient!
geeesh ... man, I remember the good ol' days when the ancients and the world coins were intertwined like a healthy growing Redwood (huh, things seemed sooo clear in 2014) .... man, I need to buy a coin, or somethun' ... 2015 just seems so empty and random (I'm already soooo tired)
=> gawd, really? ... man, I remember kinda liking Bing in 2014 (I wanna go back to those daze ... he seems like such a jerk in 2015? ... is it just me?)
Jerk? I actually had another word in mind besides putz, but I don't want to get banned from another site. "...already soo tired". Putz! We have an entire year ahead of us. You can't be tired yet.
I seriously hope we can finish the year on the same CT we start it on. Steve: I believe that is the finest dog photo I have ever seen. If Santa's sleigh had been a dog sled, this photo would sum up the season.
