This is one of those "tweeners" where I am unsure where to post. I guess since it dates around 1300 or so I will post it here instead of ancients. I just won this coin. Here is the pic: Its a Chieng coin from Lanna just like my avatar. What is unusual about this one is the name of the mint, Chieng Tha. While there are lots of unusual, small towns listed in the standard reference for these, this is my first example of one of these that is not from Chieng Mai or Chieng Sen. Both from the pics and the seller, though, I am convinced its real. Here are some other pics. Anyone else have any experience with the scarcer towns that minted these? I cannot find any history at all related to Chieng Tha anywhere.
nah, know nothing about those, never even seen one in hand, but that is cool looking... what metal is that made of? bronze?
They are 4 baht of silver, so between 61 and 62 grams of high grade silver. Any kind of coppery color on the surface is just discoloration from being buried.
Oh my God, medman => that coin is soooo fricken cool!! (wow, congrats) => hey, it's almost like your avatar (ummm, is that an avatar-upgrade?) again, that is a super addition .... => hey, you're the owner of my "favourite coin so far in 2015" ... errr, I semi-prestigious title
