MS65 or Better Washingtons

With all the hoopla over the Washington dollar errors and people searching rolls for such, has anyone found many or any of the new dollars that are in MS65 or better state?

I have looked through a hundred dollars (4 new rolls) and have found only one coin that does not have any hits, but it does have some small brush marks on part of the rim, and a small brush mark on the field of the obverse.

I have others that have a very small hit in an area that is not distracting but there.

These coins seem to be quite soft or they are taking quite a beating during the process of minting to rolling.

    What say you all?

I have been through 10 rolls not one of them was better then ms-60 I think a ms-65 will be it for this coin there might be some higher out there but not to many thats my opinion.

That's why I decided to keep as nice a coin as I could find when searching myself. I was very surprised to find the one with only a few brush marks. I'll post a pic of it as soon as I get my camera functioning again.

I'm also still looking as long as the new rolls last. I like being able to make a good find for face value. This has put cheap fun back into my collecting.

I've had a few dozen pass through my hands so far. I'd say the majority have been in really good shape. Two weeks ago I got 5 from the corner grocery store that look really nice. Of course carrying them around in my pocket doesn't help them.....

    Hi, Walterallen

You hit it right on the head! It has put the fun back into looking through face value coins.
I have about 8 rolls of WGD’s (Washington Dollars) my new name for them and have only opened 3 rolls but have found a few real nice ones.

None here. Either they are scratched, dinged, or scuffed. I agree with Bruce, be very hard to find some nice grade WGD's (Neat term Philly, saves time on typing)

Well I have searched nearly $10,000 , and have yet to find a single gem.About 10-20 out of a thousand will make the MS-63-MS-64 mark. Too many marks from the coin counters.

Hmmm, how come Mr. Mike "please undestand" Mezack can offer rolls certified by ICG to be MS63 or better? Did ICG get all the good stuff, I think not; something is fishy about ICG and CSNTV. Thanks, Douglas

I don't know what the grading standards are for the wgd's (or most moderns), but compare a graded ms63 morgan to the new dollars. If you use that as a standard I don't think ms 63 Washingtons will be very uncommon.

Wait a little while, SGS will come out with a few rolls of their MS70's! I've been through a few rolls of Phila. dollars & haven't found a gradable one yet. I would guess the weight of a dollar coin produces a lot of nicks & abrasions while they are transported in bags before they are rolled. Nice ones are going to be rare. I had a tough time finding MS65's & 66's while looking through the Westward Journey nickels. Gem quality dollars are going to be even harder to find.

I've looked at a couple hundred of these, and I unequivocally believe that I have not seen a single coin worthy of a anything higher than an ultra marginal ms-67. If anyone manages to find a legitimate 8, it will probably be worth some big bucks. The 67's I predict will be very pricy, and heck, even 6's are few and far between. Ugly ugly ugly coins IMO (condition wise)

It's not hard. I'd bet you would have a hard time finding one of these coins fresh from a roll that graded lower than MS63.

Ah, but the trick is finding an MS65 or better!;)

Most of the "T.V." shows are having the coins graded as "uncirculated", I can assume only because the bulk rate they get for this type of "grading", if that's what you want to call it and therefore charge a premium for it. For myself, I've gone through a few rolls of coins from the mint and they are nice. I have not seen any that I would send for grading and on average I think the Sac's are a better strike, at least for the last few years. As I said in a previous thread, these coins are garbage. Now that may be a little too strong, but if I have to pay a premium from the mint for the coins I expect a better coin.

Very nice! The four that graded 66 represent a nice profit (should you decide to sell them). I think they are going in the mid $200s right now on Ebay. The 65's will do fine as well.

I just didn't have the guts to submit the minimum 100 to PCGS...I'm kicking myself now:eek:
