I acquired this 1909 half for type purposes. What do you think it graded? I'll post the grade Friday night. Thanks for playing!
62 at least if the higher reliefs ( head wreath & cheek area) didn't have the look of "smoothing" from wear
AU58 or MS64. I believe I am seeing evidence of rub. If there is no rub and it is an artifact of the images/toning, then the coin could grade as high as MS64 with luster being the limiting factor IMO.
Based on the wear on her cheek, the shield, and the feathers, I'm gonna have to go with AU-55 on this one.
Guesses ranged from mid-Au to mid MS, you guys are sharp. The final Jeopardy answer is : What is... This coin is a true "AU-64". It has full rolling luster with a little rub on the obv. high points and a little on the eagle's high spots. The speckled toning on the obv. masks the luster making a GTG from static photos difficult. The reverse is less toned and has a brilliant cartwheel. Strike is very nice. I don't think the coin has been dipped. I like it a lot better than my MS 63 Half. Thanks for playing!
