I saw and ad in Numismatic News a while back for a promotion ANACS was running. I emailed them requesting one of their submission kits and never heard a word back from them. Needless to say, nothing was submitted.
No need for a submission kit as it contains a submission form, which you can download as a PDF, and a sheet to send your 2X2" flips in. Not worth waiting for really.
Ok, I sent these two today. 1882 Seated Liberty Dime - Looks AU 1832 Capped Bust Quarter - Probably cleaned & polished in fields due to scratches.
If your 2 coins were valued at say less than $1,000 total, then it would cost you $21 for ANACS Return Shipping to include Insurance, plus whatever the Shipping/Insurance is to send it out to them. You save $38 on the Free Grading. ANYONE can submit to ANACS. When you do your first submission you will get a Customer Number assigned--not before--so you can't set up an account beforehand. ANACS has, IMO, an advantage vs. NGC and PCGS in that "problem" coins will receive an actual GRADE such as "Cleaned AU58 Details" whereas the other 2 TPGs almost always label the coin "AU Details". Also, ANACS will (for a reasonable fee of $7 if you can make an educated guess, or $12 if they have to do research) Attribute many more Varieties than the other 2 TPGs. Even though ANACS graded coins in the same grade usually are valued lower than NGC or PCGS, the Variety Attribution factor can boost the coins value to some collectors.
It's confusing, because they have a registration process for new customers on their website and it doesn't indicate any of this, and they have been unresponsive to inquiry as to why the process of registering an account can't be established. I've managed to sign up for the "Insider" newsletter but that's about it.
I tried registering today, and it kept giving me errors. I called, and they fixed it in about 2 seconds.
Thanks. That seems to be the only way to get it done. Will do, then I'll feel more secure about mailing in my submission per this offer. Thanks everyone.
I too am a little nervous mailing them 2 gold coins. I hate paying for NGC membership every year when I only grade a few coins though. I have no way of tracking this submission since I have no customer number yet. Also, submission forms printed online have no submission numbers to track.
In the case of NGC, I find ANA to be a better value, which allows you associate membership with NGC, NCS and PMG without having to carry individual membership to each of those. The ANA associate member can submit coins but does not get full registry and online access to NGC and related companies. I have heard of the ANACS offers in the past just never got on the list to submit anything.
I usually do whatever level of membership gets 5 free submissions. It usually pays for the membership essentially.
Made the call and it just mysteriously works now! LOL! Thanks again all, and I hope you all have a safe and happy New Years eve / day!
I should have mentioned this when I read your post the first time: For those of you who regularly submit to NGC, PCGS, ANACS, or CAC and don't like paying the high-cost of insurance from USPS, FedEx or UPS for the "Full Retail Value" of what you think your coins are worth if they were lost or stolen in transit, I would like to inform you of an association that offers low cost insurance for ANY valuable item, an also discounted FedEx rates. It is the "North American Collectibles Association, Inc." (URL below), and thru them ShipandInsure.com. There is an annual fee of $45 for the initial membership and $90 for renewal, but this is soon recouped if you do multiple shipments valued in the thousands or higher. You can use UPS, USPS (Priority or Registered) and FedEx. The cost/$100 starts @ $0.11 for Registered Mail and the most expensive is $0.26 for FedEx 2-Day; the other methods are between these 2 costs. Some of the Carriers/Methods allow as much as $75,000 of insurance per shipment; or higher upon getting phone approval. Aside from the savings on the outbound shipment, you can avoid having CAC, NGC, and PCGS charge their higher MANDATORY Insurance on the DECLARED VALUE of your coins; you do this by submitting the "Confirmation Letter" from ShipandInsure with you coin shipment AND select "I will use my own insurance" and the appropriate Carrier--usually FedEx or Priority Mail/Registered. Unfortunately, ANACS will not allow you to use your own insurance. You will need to fill out an Application and show 3 Trade References (what coin Dealers have you had a credit purchase with [e.g. Rare Coin Wholesalers; Great Collections, etc], BUT NOT EBAY MERCHANTS unless a direct transaction via CC or Check) and 2 Trade Organizations to which you belong (e.g. ANA, PCGS Collectors Club, NGC Collectors Society, etc): https://nacacollectors.com/
ANACS seems to be a little harder to follow your coin than with NGC. They received mine a few days ago, and I have no clue if they have started the process, or even noted that they have arrived.
Well the clock is ticking, right? They have 15 days to turn it around. Mine should arrive tomorrow, 1/7.
I always get an email from ANAC's after they receive it and then again when they ship along with a grade list of completed coins. Make sure to include your email on the submission form. And they always answer my emails also, so it's worth a shot to give them a shout.
I'm sending in two gold coins. I called and they are also grading small cents and silver dollars for 10 bucks. I have a peace dollar with the moustache VAM so I think she will go in for ten bucks.
I have seen online some ANACS slabs that say discovery piece on them with the VAM, what does that mean? IS it the first of that type of VAM that they have seen and how do you get that. I have a peace dollar with a die gouge on the reverse in the rays left of the olive branch and can not find the VAM online to give it a number.
