My boss showed me this today that someone spent at my store. At first glance it looks like an ink spill, but it is actually a signed and numbered lithograph of a mermaid. The detail is extremely fine, through a magnifier you can see individual scales, hairs, and bubbles.
It is numbered 2/09 so I'm guessing it is from a plate. Looks like it was designed to be printed on a $1 also.
I saw that, but figured it was a date. If it were a number wouldn't it be 02/09 or 2/9? And why not round it off to 10 prints?
I would guess 2/09 would mean February of 2009. Maybe the "S" is the artist's "signature"? Pretty cool whatever it is...
That is a very articulate piece of art, i'd keep it, it looks like someone put a lot of time in to make that.
Is this for sale, or would you consider selling it? It blows my mind that you received this in payment at face.
