Found this little fella in a recently purchased coin lot. Seems to be in UNC condition. Tried looking it up, but the token guide book is very tough to use. Any thoughts or ideas as to value would be of great help.
These generally go for $10-50 depending on the time of day and whatever other sorts of things affect pricing on eBay. I will say that yours seems to be in very lovely condition (I cannot tell you if it's genuine; no expert here) and I've seen them sell for upwards of $100+ in MS. Nice token, I wouldn't sell it if I were you, but then again, I wouldn't sell any coin if I could avoid it
I got a civil war token on a lot I purchased earlier this year. I sold it and have regretted it ever since If that's a genuine token, that is one nice piece!
Nice example. These tokens are classified based on the Fuld numbers of the dies used to strike them. Yours looks to be the pairing of die number 298 (the Army & Navy side) and die number 11 (Capped Liberty). The token appears to be struck in copper (denoted by letter "a"), so it would be described by Civil War Token collectors as: Fuld 11/298a It is rated as Rarity-1 in the guide book (> 5,000 extant), and so is among the most common of Civil War Patriotic Tokens. Yours looks to grade around XF-AU, with a little bit of circulation. As for value, this one would be around $10-20, with the possibility (though not likely) of selling for more if in a bidding war. You can find a few examples priced at silly levels on eBay by searching for "11 298 token"...but examples similar to yours actually sell for around $20. Very cool token! Cheers, Brandon
