Why pay $35.95 + shipping to the mint for a roll of GW $1 when you can get them for $25 at a local bank? I bought two rolls and many more are available at the local bank. What is the major difference besides the packaging? Thanks!
No Diff The only difference I know is in the wrapper. The only reason I see to buy from the mint is to get a roll of coins with the mint mark you can't get in your area. You also have the option of ebay for the other mint marks, which can be cheaper.
The only reason I buy them from the mint is because they're not available in the banks around me. I've tried HSBC, CitiBank, Norfolk. No one has them.
Coins in rolls from the mint are supposedly in better condition then those found in bank rolls. Coins destined for banks are shipped to the Federal Reserve banks from the mint in 100,000 coins sacks (the size of a VW bug). In those bags the coins often get lot's of dings and scratches. The mint rolls however are rolled directly from the mint before being shipped in bags, thus, are in better condition. That being said, your basically paying for a fancy wrapper which tends to resell better on eBay.
Sorry but the mint does not roll coins , all coin come from a outside contractor so they are in the same condition as bank rolls you are just paying more money for the wrapper. Bruce.

My bank told me on Saturday that they have no plans to order any Washington dollars. The branch manager said it's just another Sacagawea disaster.
That statment there is why... Some people (not all) collect mint rolls and will pay more for a mint wrappered roll than a bank or service roll... Just look on ebay or sites that sell both and see what is fetching more....
Bruce was correct, all coins are shipped from the mint in bags. The mint does not roll any coins - never has. And the bags of dollars, have a 140,000 coins in them.

Howdy, I ordered a set from the mint for the wrapper (stash), but bought a roll from my local dealer for $29.95 for spending around town. I'm checking the banks. Seems my credit union had some but they disappeared quickly. I don't have a problem with paying $30 for 25 if that's what it takes. The deal is to spend them and get them in circulation. peace, rono
It looks like Bank wrapped rolls are selling on E-bay and various internet dealers for roughly the same premium as the rolls with the mint wrapper. I bought a roll today from the B of A , limit of 1 roll per customer.
Not available in any bank in my area. If you go out of area, you need an account at the bank. The nearest back to me that has them is 32 miles away, that's a 64 mile turn around and an hour in time if you're lucky. MMMMMMMM........let's see.....gas is $2.45 per gallon as of today, one of my suburbans gets 18 miles per gallon, the other gets 10. An averaged of 14 miles per gallon......yada...yada...yada....
