Also in this category, hopefully no news means they actually received the gift at the very least.

So far I have not received mine - but as I told Kirk, no reason to get worried. Christmas is a two-day holiday here and, this year, was followed by a Saturday. I do not envy the postal services at this time of the year. ;) Then there is customs; items coming from outside the EU are more or less randomly picked for further inspection.

Ah well ... the Twelve Days of Christmas end on 6 Jan, and a day later we have Christmas according to the Julian calendar. Plenty of time. :)

I'll get images up this evening, it's been a tough Christmas in jwt708 household this year.

Thank you to my Santa for two nicely toned coins. A 1970s Lincoln and the attached 1960 dime. Thank you and Merry Christmas. (I apologize for the poor photography.)

Still waiting and some of you went way over the suggested $15. I know I went over but now I'm feeling a little cheap.

I know what you mean about feeling cheap! Damned by "faint praise". : )

The Secret Santa exchange is about coins, not about money. ;) Yes, of course some have, and can give, a little more than others. So what? Read again what Kirk wrote in the very first post here, particularly the paragraph that starts with "The post count has gone up this year". This may sound trivial but ... it's the thought or spirit that counts.

Hmmmm....this is more about escalation than some folk kindly doing a nice thing because they can. Whilst I'd love to receive a gold coin or two, I'm not sure how I'd feel if I had given a $15+ gift to someone who didn't appreciate what I'd sent.

I didn't qualify to join this year but was looking forward to being part of it in 2015. After seeing what folk exchanged, I'm now not so sure.

Why? Where did that come from?

I got my present in yesterday. (It was communicated to me that it would be late, and I don't mind at all.)

I got a wide variety of currency and a cool certified error coin (1994 dime missing a clad layer). I think it's cool because it's all outside what I usually buy for myself. The error coin is actually the ONLY error coin I own. Thanks!

I haven't taken any photos yet, but I'll try to get them up in the next day or two.

Hence the words in the original post- "it's the thought or spirit that counts."

Maybe next year we can have two Secret Santas- One held strictly to the $15 range and another that has whatever range you would like to set yourself.

I do understand some may not be able to give as much as others and that's ok, but making them feel bad for what they were able to give is not ok.

    Just a thought...

A 1962 Philly Mint set! This set looks amazing - actually the cent looks the best with hints of orange. Makes me want to start with photography instead of the scanner. Anyway, I'm super happy with my gift Santa I love it and none of these coins were previously. Oh, I liked the card too, many thanks!

That is a 1962 Silver PROOF set, not mint set ;)

I think that just about everybody has been pleased with what they received and also understands that some are not in the position to give over the top gifts. We should also keep in mind that some members that were paired up are friends so they went a little above and beyond. The $15 number is just a guide number, if a member felt like being overly generous, that's their right to be generous.

tuli, over all 4 years of this exchange there have been some that have not been appreciative of their gifts and IMHO they are missing the entire point of the exchange.

There are also some who have gone so far above and beyond the spirit of the gift that they make others question the worthiness of what they, themselves, have sent.

I have participated in this all 4 years. Each time I have researched my recipient and tried as hard as I could to find something that they'd like and that fit into their interests.

Although I have tried as best I could to not go too far over the suggested $15 value, I have tried to make sure that the recipient wasn't disappointed and received something of value.

It's a gift... try to make sure the recipient enjoys it and if you are less than thrilled with your own, try to be kind and thankful anyway.
