Its one of the most common dates, so-so grade, and $18 for shipping? Its not rare, its not an eye-popping high grade, and its about 6-7 times the cost of its silver value. Its a W.C. Fields special....they sell one every minute
$18 pretty ridiculous for shipping. Wouldn't really want to buy something from someone who has their coin overpriced like that never mind something that should cost under $5 to ship.
No, you shouldn't buy it because it is overpriced. However, I'm glad to know that you at least had the good sense to ask someone, first. There are some people here who don't believe in educating stupid buyers. Chris
No the Peace Dollar is overpriced. If you shop around you can get one much nicer for the same price if not a little less.
NO I'd look around for a much better one for your $ and the shipping's a ripoff too! At least you were smart enough to ask the right group of people....
Someone is looking for a sucker at $80.00 or they think they have gold. Priority envelope shipping is under $6.00. I'd report them for gouging on shipping. Stay away from this one. IMHO.
Andy, are you located outside the US? if not, your shipping should be much less (shipping to South Florida for me is $2.05). As for the coin, it has IMO rather nice toning that is very similar on both sides which is not always the case with Peace Dollars (except for the typical goldish toning). As others have pointed out, the 1922 is the highest mintage and the most commonly found in mid-MS grades. That coin has a few bag/reeding marks in the prime focal areas and that is why it is not graded higher, however, I think that overall it is quite attractive as a toned example. The older ANACS Slabs are sometimes sought out by collectors--similar to NGC and PCGS Black and OGH--because it is felt (by some) that the TPGs graded more conservatively back then; the original ANACS graders tended to arrive at more of a technical grade based upon PRESERVATION/STRIKE/LUSTER/Eye Appeal rather than Market Grading. If you like the coin because of its toning, then just be aware that you will not realize any profit if you have it regraded unless it were to achieve MS-65, and that is highly unlikely.
Andy, be patient and you'll be happier. This coin is way over priced. The seller has reduced the shipping to $2.05 (reasonable), but it's still 100% over FMV. The pictures arent' very good and it will be difficult to judge any toning. Take your time and look around. There are plenty of Peace Dollars in the market place. I just don't know if you're going to get a nice toner for under $100.
