Well, I don't have my Krause books with me at this time. So, can't give you those stats from book at this moment. But will share some of my experience. The worst example I have seen is for the 28 piece Olympic silver set issued by Canada. The issue price was $650 for the set and it had approx 30 Oz silver with $210 Canadian face value. In late 2001, during a local show a dealer wanted to sell these sets just for Canadian exchange rate ($180 at that time) and nobody wanted them. He had couple of offers for $120 for the set (as silver was $4 an Oz in those days). At the end of the show, I asked him his best price for the 4 sets he had. He said he will sell those 4 sets for $600. I purchased them and since then they are part of my collection. Now even with silver $13 an Oz today, one can get the same set for close to $400 (much less then the issue price). Regards Ballabh Garg
I agree! After looking at the current submission and productions of late from our U.S. Mint, the Sacagawea is a good looking coin. Isn't it what everyone complains about wanting... something different looking, something that is based with history, something that does not look like a Chuck 'E Cheese token. A materinal Indian on the obverse, and great eagles on the reverse. Looks different and good to me for a modern coin.
I think that this whole "Sakakawea" deal is political correctness run amuck. Here we have a coin with an American female indian, they ( politicians ) and the US Mint will never remove this coin from its catalog. Think about it, they first honor the States, that fine and the Presidents..Ok whatever. So this coin "Sakakawea" now want to honor American Indian feats or whatever and the coin has not even in circulation for the last five plus years. It's turned into a bronze like commem that the mint sells. Just wait we are going to be "honoring" many other groups or minorities of some type in the future for "equal time" basically, let's all be fair sit around and sing kumbaya..did I spell that right? or is it with a " K" I just wish that the politicos would get their pet projects out and just stop the Sac or Sak or whatever we will call her in a few years after someone else gets offended! The US Mint is already turning into the RCM like our neighbors to the north.
Because nickels actually contain NICKEL. They were, upon their release, the only coins with NICKEL in them, and I'm not sure about modern compositions, but this might still ring true, only now it's CUPRIC NICKEL. Just my two CENTS.
I for one LOVE the new designs. Whats there to hate about them? It's an extra dollar to keep in a collection. I'm sure you guys spend well over a dollar on some coins that aren't even worth a dollar at face value! I hope they come out with a mew design for the Sac. and the proposed design for the PENNY in 2009.
